Milk Bread Class
Today we had a youth milk bread class and we made three different types of bread rolls. The kids measured and weighed the ingredients carefully and then kneaded the dough to perfection. While we waited for the yeast to do its thing, we talked a bit about what yeast is and what it does. Why we need to proof the yeast, why we need to wait the right amount etc. We had a little lesson on kitchen safety and then we played board games while we waited.
This is right before they left, packed with hot bread rolls.
The kids doing the "mis en place", reading the recipe carefully and double checking that we have everything.
Then the kids kneaded the dough.... for a long, long time... This is a fun thing for them, and it feels really good too.
Here they are shaping three small ball to place into the cupcake tins. Look at how proud they are!
Here are a few bread rolls to sample. Bakers have to eat as well :)
Waiting for the dough to rise.
