About Bake Austin

Bake Austin is a hands-on culinary academy for kids ages 7–17, built on a simple but powerful idea: teach kids to bake from scratch and give them real skills they carry into everyday life.

We’re not just teaching recipes here. We’re teaching kids how to think, troubleshoot, communicate, and take real ownership in the kitchen. The confidence they build at that mixing bowl? It shows up everywhere else in their lives too.

Today, our home base is Central East Austin, where we offer in-person summer camps that are equal parts delicious and life-changing. We can’t wait to have your family in our kitchen.

What We Believe

We believe baking is more than a fun activity — it’s a practical life skill that builds real character.

When a child learns to crack an egg correctly — holding it over the bowl, separating it cleanly, keeping the yolk intact — they’re learning patience, coordination, and care. When they follow a recipe start to finish, they’re learning how to take ownership, pay attention to detail, and solve problems in real time. When their cake comes out of the oven and they can’t believe they actually made that? That’s the moment everything clicks.

Those small moments compound into real confidence. And real confidence changes everything.

How We Teach

Our approach is structured, but never rigid.

We break everything down into clear, manageable steps — not just the how, but the why. We want kids to understand what they’re doing so they can build on it, reuse it, and eventually make it their own. Every student moves at their own pace, and we meet them right where they are.

We don’t rush the process. We focus on doing things well.

And just as important as baking itself, we teach responsibility. Every student cleans up after themselves, respects their tools and ingredients, and leaves the kitchen better than they found it. As any parent knows, kids are sometimes more willing to hear things from someone other than mom or dad — and we take that responsibility seriously. 😄

More Than Just Baking

Bake Austin has always been about more than recipes.

Over the years, we’ve watched something really special happen with our students. They come in a little unsure, maybe a little nervous — and they leave capable, proud, and excited to do it again. We’ve seen kids go home and start cooking for their families. We’ve seen shy students find their voice in the kitchen. We’ve seen that shift from “I’ll try” to “I’ve got this” — and honestly, it never gets old.

That transformation — from following instructions to taking real initiative — is the outcome we’re always after. The cookies are just a bonus.

Our Roots (and What’s Ahead)

Bake Austin was born in 2012 at a dining room table, with one stand mixer and a whole lot of heart. Chef Pascal — a culinary school-trained pastry chef, single mom, and passionate educator — built this program from the ground up around the things she loved most: baking, children, and the belief that learning real skills builds real confidence.

What started in her home grew into a thriving community of young bakers and cooks, each one leaving the kitchen a little more capable, a little more independent, and a lot more proud of what they can create with their own two hands.

In 2020, we expanded into virtual classes, connecting kids from across the country — from Austin to Los Angeles, Chicago to St. Thomas. That experience reinforced something we had always known: kids thrive when they’re given real responsibility and the space to figure things out for themselves.

Chef Pascal’s legacy lives on in everything we do here. Her vision, her warmth, and her dedication to young people continue to guide us as we move forward.

Today, our focus is on in-person summer camps right here in Austin — and we are so excited about what’s ahead. We’re continuing to build a program that meets kids where they are and helps them grow into confident, capable individuals, one recipe at a time.

Chef Lucy

Chef Lucy has been teaching at Bake Austin for seven years. She works with students at every level and has a real gift for making kids feel comfortable, capable, and excited to try new things. Many of you already know her from past summers in the kitchen.

Her own story at Bake Austin started the same way it does for many of our students — she walked in as a kid who loved to bake. She learned under Chef Pascal, the founder of Bake Austin, and never left. Having Chef Lucy carry this program forward was Chef Pascal’s wish, and Chef Lucy does it every day with skill, warmth, and a whole lot of heart.
